Despite benefiting from a suitable geographical location, Iran unfortunately has obtained little benefits in the field of transit. Among these, one of the cases that has been neglected in practice in recent decades is the North-South Corridor. The North-South International Corridor agreement was signed in 1379 in St. Petersburg, Russia, with the aim of connecting Northern Europe to Southeast Asia, by the Ministers of Transport of 4 countries: Iran, India, Russia and Oman. However, since that time, the capacities related to this corridor have not been used seriously, and this is despite the fact that during this period, competing corridors were developed in this direction. For this purpose, the present study intends to examine the advantages and possible challenges of this corridor in addition to examining the competing corridors of the North-South corridor. During the research, an attempt was made to answer the research problem based on descriptive and analytical approach. During the current research, the positions of the three countries of Iran, India and Russia as the main partners in the development of this transit corridor were examined and it was found that there are significant differences in the motives of the parties to participate in this project. In fact, due to this reason, during this period, real cooperation in this regard was not realized. In addition, three Indo-Arab-Israeli, Tapi and Zangzor regional corridors were examined, and it was found that two of them, the Indo-Arab-Israeli and Zangzor corridors, in addition to their economic importance, have a security nature for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, the necessity to adopt the right approach is felt more than ever. On the other hand, in order to prevent the negative economic effects caused by the TAPI Corridor, the option of buying and swapping Russian gas was proposed by Iran, and if this plan is successfully implemented, Iran will receive at least $6 billion in revenue.
