Improving the competitive advantage in the port and maritime business requires the maximum growth in added value resulting from the provision of port and maritime services. Meanwhile, factors such as customer demand, production factors including physical capital (infrastructure, land, machinery and equipment, etc.), human capital and financial capital, supporting industries including front and back logistics chain, operational capacity of the port company and management strategy of the company are of crucial importance. In this article, global and regional trends and driving forces in two positive (globalization, containerization, logistics revolution, information and communication technology, etc.) and negative (global financial crisis, drop in oil prices, corona pandemic, embargo) and...) areas and also, considering the main origin of these major trends and driving forces in six economic areas (globalization, global financial crisis, drop in oil prices and increase in exchange rate), social (Covid-19), political (sanctions), technological (containerization, logistics revolution and information and communication technology) and environmental and legal (low sulfur fuel law and alternative fuels) have been investigated. In the macro part of the globalization process, the manifestations of globalization in the port and maritime industries, including the integration of these industries as part of the global supply chain, the formation of global and regional unions, and the creation of hub and spoke networks with the aim of increasing the share of companies in the growing market of global trade is addressed.
